Prospects don’t need convincing. They need alignment.
A few months ago, a client came to me feeling frustrated and confused.
She was doing everything right on LinkedIn. Her profile was polished. She was posting consistently. She had grown her network. She was even getting inquiries.
But here was the problem:
“People tell me I’m impressive,” she said. “They tell me they love my content.” “Then… nothing happens.”
No follow-up conversations. No momentum. No clients. She wondered if she needed better messaging, stronger CTAs, or more persuasive copy.
What she actually needed was something far simpler— And far more powerful.
She needed to understand how her buyers decide.
Because here’s what most people miss about LinkedIn: Visibility doesn’t equal readiness. Engagement doesn’t equal trust. And interest doesn’t automatically mean someone is prepared to say “yes.”
Sales don’t break down because people aren’t interested. They break down because we often speak before someone is ready to hear.
When we slowed things down and looked at her conversations through a buyer-psychology lens, a pattern emerged.
She was communicating brilliantly. Just not in the language her buyers needed at that moment.
Some prospects needed reassurance before action. Others needed clarity before confidence. Others needed permission before commitment.
Once she learned how to recognize those differences, everything shifted. Her conversations softened. Her follow-ups felt natural instead of forced. And instead of chasing interest, she began meeting people where they are.
That’s when conversations turned into clients. Not because she tried harder, but because she listened differently.
And this is where Connections to Clients begins.
My sister newsletter, Connections to Conversions by Darlene Petrie, focuses on building momentum, how connections lead to conversation and conversion. Connections to Clients continues the journey.
Because a conversion isn’t the end goal. A client is.
And clients are created through:
- Trust, not pressure
- Readiness, not urgency
- Alignment, not persuasion
Sales with soul means understanding that people don’t buy when you are ready. They buy when they are.
Relationship-Building Framework
Most people approach sales asking one quiet question: “How do I get this person to buy?”
A relationship-based approach asks a different one: “Where is this person now?”
Prospects aren’t stalled. They’re not resistant. And they’re rarely “on the fence.” They’re simply moving at their own pace based on trust, clarity, and how safe it feels to decide.
When you stop trying to advance the sale and be present in the moment, everything changes.
Your role isn’t to convince, push, or accelerate. It’s to recognize readiness, create clarity, and let the decision emerge naturally.
Sales becomes less about momentum…and more about alignment.
C2C Swipe
Here’s a subtle LinkedIn shift you can make this week:
👉 Replace your next follow-up question.
Instead of: “Would you like to schedule a discovery call?”
Try: “What would be helpful for you right now?”
This one change:
- Reduces pressure
- Signals respect
- Invites honesty
- Reveals readiness
It gives the other person control, which paradoxically increases trust and momentum.
